Download SWOT data

General

The SWOT mapping application allows you to make a download request for the SWOT nesting / telemetry data currently shown on the map based on your criteria. All users must first agree to the SWOT and OBIS-SEAMAP Terms of Use, fill in the download request form with contact information and a detailed prospectus, and then click "Finished the Form" to submit the download request.

For SWOT data/layers listed below, you can select them individually and download them immediately by clicking [Start Download] button at the bottom of the window:

• SWOT distributions
• SWOT RMUs (Regional Management Units)
• SWOT mtDNA sites
• SWOT nDNA sites
• SWOT Habitat suitability
• SWOT nesting beach monitoring location
• OBIS-SEAMAP data on the map (telemetry and other data available based on permissions set by individual providers)

For other SWOT data listed below, you can select them individually and download provider information, because data are only available with permission:

• SWOT nesting beach monitoring count data
• Telemetry data (if permission is required, set by individual providers)

For all uses, data requesters must agree to adhere to both the SWOT Terms of Use and the OBIS-SEAMAP Terms of Use.

How to download SWOT nesting / telemetry data

1. Set up criteria (e.g. target species, country, count type) and make sure the map shows the data you are interested in.
2. Click [Download] botton in the toolbar below the map.
3. Read 'SWOT Terms of Use' and agree to it by clicking [Agreed on the Terms]. Otherwise, click [Cancel] to close the download wizard window. If you don't agree on the Terms of Use, you can't download the data.
4. In the second wizard panel, fill in the 'Full name', 'Affiliation', 'E-Mail', 'Prospectus' boxes. All fields are required.
   
   The SWOT data manager will consult with you for more details if necessary after you are finished with the download wizard.
   
   The information will be stored in our database but not be used to other porposes than the management of SWOT/OBIS-SEAMAP.
5. Click [Finished the Form].
6. In the third wizard panel, click [Download Request Form] to get a word document that you need to fill in and submit to swotdata@gmail.com.
   (We are currently developing an online form that streamline the submission of the form.)

How to download OBIS-SEAMAP data

1. Set up criteria (e.g. target species, country, count type) and make sure the map shows the data you are interested in.
2. Click [Download] botton in the toolbar below the map.
3. Read 'SWOT Terms of Use' and agree to it by clicking [Agreed on the Terms]. Otherwise, click [Cancel] to close the download wizard window. If you don't agree on the Terms of Use, you can't download the data.
4. In the second wizard panel, fill in the 'Full name', 'Affiliation', 'E-Mail', 'Prospectus' boxes. All fields are required.
   
   The information will be stored in our database but not be used to other porposes than the management of SWOT/OBIS-SEAMAP.
5. Click [Finished the Form].
6. In the third wizard panel, choose desired options for 'Data Selection' and 'Data Format'.
   
7. Currently, ESRI shapefile is the only option for the download format for SWOT data/layers. For OBIS-SEAMAP data, CSV format is also available.
8. Click [Start download]. you will see the progress of the download and then the browser's 'save' dialog pops up.
9. When the browser's save dialog appears, select the folder you want to save it in. Data are zipped.
10. Unzip the downloaded file.
