The survey was conducted on the NOAA DeHavilland Twin Otter DHC-6, Series 300 aircraft (N57 RF) from 12 June to 12 July 2004. The study area extended between the state border between Virginia and North Carolina (36 degrees N) to the Bay of Fundy (45 degrees N) and from the United States Atlantic shoreline to the entrance of the Gulf of St. Lawrence (58 degrees W). The team was based out of Woods Hole, Massachusetts (Otis Air Force base) on June 12; Salisbury, Maryland from June 13 to 18; back to Woods Hole, Massachusetts (Otis Air Force base) from June 19 to 28; Portland, Maine on June 29 to 30; Bar Harbor, Maine from July 1 to July 7; Halifax, Nova Scotia from July 8 to July 9; Yarmouth, Nova Scotia from July 10 to 11, and back to Woods Hole, Massachusetts, United States on July 12th.
<purpose>The objective of this survey was to describe the habitat of and estimate the abundance of cetaceans and turtles that are in the study area.</purpose><supplinf>This aerial survey was conducted in conjunction with a shipboard survey '<a href=http://seamap.env.duke.edu/dataset/396>NEFSC Mid-Atlantic marine mammal abundance survey 2004</a>,' another dataset available on OBIS-SEAMAP.</supplinf></descript><timeperd><timeinfo><rngdates><begdate>20040613</begdate><enddate>20040712</enddate></rngdates></timeinfo><current>ground condition</current></timeperd><status><progress>Complete</progress><update>None planned</update></status><spdom><descgeog>North Atlantic Ocean</descgeog><bounding><westbc>-75.88993</westbc><eastbc>-65.60796</eastbc><northbc>45.013</northbc><southbc>36.7</southbc></bounding>
